Review: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

My rating: ★★
Genre: young adult, mystery, romance, contemporary.
Series: stand-alone.

Blurb from Goodreads:

A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.
We Were Liars is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.
Read it.
And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE.

My review:

I tried to love it, but to be honest, it just didn’t work for me.
I was so excited for this book, but sadly I just couldn’t get into it. I couldn’t relate with the characters and I didn’t liked the writing style a lot.
But I can see why a lot of people like it so much. There’s a mystery mixed with a story about love, family, friends and illness. Maybe I’m too old to really connect with this book? I guess I will never know.

PS: Don’t be influenced by my review and think immediately 'Ugh, no, I'm never reading that!'. If you are younger than me (I’m 20), I really recommend you give this book a chance. Maybe you will end up loving it? I really hope you do! ;)
